Gus Makris, a Republican, is a husband, father, and tax counsel with a record of serving his community.
Since 2013 Gus has served as a board member of the East Cobb Civic Association, a forum where members of East Cobb neighborhoods can hear from representatives of government and community organizations on important issues. In 2013 Governor Nathan Deal appointed Gus to serve on an Advisory Board to the Georgia Lottery Corporation. In 2015 Governor Deal appointed Gus to serve as Chairman of the Judicial, District Attorney, and Circuit Public Defender Compensation Commission. He and the other commission members were charged with evaluating the resources of the justice system and the compensation of judges, district attorneys, and public defenders.
Gus is a founding member of the Atlanta Chapter of the American Enterprise Institute’s Enterprise Club and is a member of the Atlanta Chapter of the Federalist Society. Gus is the former Assistant Treasurer of the Cobb County Republican Party and has been elected as a delegate to county, district, and state Republican Party conventions. He is also a member of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.
He currently serves as Senior Tax Counsel to Turner Broadcasting. Prior to joining Turner, he held the position of Tax Associate with the law firm of King & Spalding LLP in Atlanta. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and the University of Chicago Law School.
Gus and his wife, Danielle, are the proud parents of Henry, John, Peter, and Frances. They live in the Princeton Lakes neighborhood in East Cobb and attend Holy Spirit Catholic Church, where Gus has served as a lector.
